Tip #3 - Create an Extraordinary Life to Create an Extraordinary Love
Dear Friend,
Julie was a client of mine who participated in one of my coaching conference calls. She was a successful career woman in her 40's who'd never been married, and she was eager to “call in” her beloved. Like many of us who’ve not yet married or who’ve had past “failed” relationships, she sometimes wondered if there was something "wrong" with her.
A Miracle is a Changed Consciousness
Julie had moved to Minnesota for a job that she loved. However, being from the South she eventually realized she didn’t care for the cold weather and longed to live in a warm climate again. But she still went through the motions of meeting and dating men in Minnesota, all the while wondering why she wasn’t finding the right partner. Was it her age? Was she too independent, too intimidating or demanding?
As time went on she became discouraged and hopeless. Little did she know it was her unconscious wishes keeping love at bay. (As we learned in Tip #2, our unconscious wishes can act as a powerful influence on our life.) As she went through the coaching process, she had a powerful but simple realization: She wasn't really open to love, because she didn't want to fall in love and be forced to remain in Minnesota! Her desire to move to a warmer climate, no matter who or how “hard” she dated, was creating an unconscious barrier to relationship opportunities.
Be Happy with Your Own Life First
As soon as she realized this truth -- that she needed to be happy with her own life first -- she began making changes. Her commitment to being happy was so strong she was willing to leave her beloved Minnesota job. Fortunately, her boss didn't want to lose such a valuable employee and found a way to keep her on – at a company location in North Carolina!
At the end of her coaching Julie commented: This group was about so much more than just being single and looking for that other person. It helped me see that I really need to change my life so I can be truly happy. I’m feeling so much more hopeful that once I get where I want to be, then I’m going to meet my love. I’m filled with such hope for the first time in a long time.
Your Exercise
Step 1. Assess your satisfaction in life. You can use the Whole Life Assessment Tool -- it's simple to use and effective for assessing your level of satisfaction in eight key areas of your life: career, finances, health and well-being, personal growth and spirituality, fun and recreation, romance, friends and family, and physical environment. You can download the Whole Life Assessment Tool for this exercise. Or, simply write down each of the areas I mentioned on a piece of paper and assign each of them a number from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest level of satisfaction and 0 being the lowest. So if in the area of career, you rate it a 10 you're extremely satisfied with your life's work right now!
Step 2. Identify one thing you can do to increase your contentment in each area. Depending on what you see, you might decide to make some changes. Maybe it’s to explore other career interests. Or take a dance or art class. You might commit to cleaning up those piles of paper in your house. Or maybe eat more vegetables to be healthier. Let your imagine roam.
Step 3. Create a mold for the future. Now take it one step further. If a few of these areas – or all of them – were a 10 out of 10, what would your life be like? It’s important to have a clear vision of what you desire, to make a creative “mold” for the universe to fill. This is part of the process of transforming dreams into reality!
